ART. R. 128-2 :

(…) pools built or installed from 1 January 2004 must be provided with a safety system designed to prevent drowning, at the latest when the pool is filled or (...) at the latest on completion of the pool works.”

To prevent the risk of young children drowning, the French regulations require owners of private pools to fit safety systems that comply with standards: enclosures, covers, alarms or fences.

Owners of private in-ground pools who fail to abide by this law will incur a fine of 45,000 € and criminal proceedings.
